Personal Training

We are a strength and fitness conditioning company whose chief purpose is to provide an environment and training methodology that is designed for maximum success in both body shaping (Yes ladies, that includes body fat loss) and movement performance.

Training with us gets serious results, fast. Our objective is to develop functional movement and strength based skills for our clients which will, through increased work capacity, create positive and long-lasting physiological adaptations. (I.e. permanent fat loss, muscle gain and improved performance.) Our philosophy is simple. “What works for one may hinder another!” Every client is treated individually at The Energy Clinic.

Each person is unique in the way they move, thus the strengths, weaknesses, imbalances and overall structure of each person, both skeletal and muscular, is very different. Because of this, every client undergoes a comprehensive Initial Assessment to ensure each program is safe, effective and specifically goal oriented.

Some common excuses

  • "I have a gym at home" - That's nice, but do you use it and if you do, do you know if your doing the right thing? Do your feet pronate during a squat? Are your movements quad dominant or are you able to get enough glute activation? Can you show us the difference between a squat and a dead lift movement pattern. (Note we haven't even added equipment yet) Come play with us and we'll teach you why knowing these things is vital to good training.
  • "I've got a gym membership already" - We have plenty of clients who maintain their memberships at other gyms. They come to us because we are VERY good at what we do. In fact, there is a good chance that the instructors at your gym come to us as clients to learn more about fitness. We run Cert 3 and Cert 4 in Personal Training at our studio as well as lectures for existing trainers in a myriad of fitness topics.
  • "I already work with a personal trainer" - Cool, that's great. But are they worth the money you're throwing at them. If you haven't been run through a postural check AND a bio-mechanical check then run for the hills cause they are not a good trainer despite the fact that you think they are 'nice'. Here is a quick test. Ask them to test your external rotation of your hips... It should be an easy and measurable test.
  • "I live too far away" - Yes, if you live in Victoria you are too far away. But remember that you can sign up to our Energy Bulletins up there on the right and get Ed-ja-ma-kated via e-mail for free no matter where you live.
  • "I'm worried that you're going to kill me" - Well, we haven't killed anyone yet. In fact, we are very proud of the fact that we are extremely good at fixing people. We are NOT a Smash'm-&-Thrash'm fitness company, where we think the harder we push you the better your results will be. Our training philosophy requires a high degree of technical skill which we will teach you. We will not hurt you or ask you to do anything that we don't think you can do.
  • "I have an existing injury" - BRING IT ON. We are VERY good at rehabilitation and exercise therapy.
  • "I don't have the time" - Lot's of people use this as an excuse. The funny thing is that everyone can find the time if health and fitness is a priority. Most people wait until their health takes an exaggerated step backward. Why wait till then?

I have really enjoyed the Kettle Bell Workshop I completed recently. I enjoy variety with exercise or I become bored and lose interest.

The KB workshop was different in that it was more a ‘thinking person’s ‘ workshop. The focus was on one movement pattern and breaking that down into all its components and working on each part to try to perfect the complete movement pattern.Working on each part separately showed me the importance of basic movement patterns and how they contribute to a complete movement, and how important it is to get each one right. It challenged my brain by requiring me to really concentrate on everything I was doing and how it all fits together. It was challenging and rewarding to see the progress over the 5 weeks.

Duncan has an amazing amount of knowledge and an ability to share this with other people in a way that stimulates interest and fosters skill development. I would certainly be interested in further workshops to challenge me in different ways.
